ABOUT

Welcome to my portfolio! My name is Brandon and I’m the owner and lead photographer at FotoVitae. As a full-time wedding photographer, I feel so fortunate to have the opportunity to capture and document the most important day in my client’s lives. It gives me pride to think about how many of my photos are displayed and how many memories are relived through them every day…I LOVE my job!

Based in Portland, I work with around 40 local couples, each year, and find myself traveling for another 5-10 weddings throughout the Northwest. If you have spent time looking through my work, you will notice I approach weddings with a candid, photojournalistic style, capturing true emotion rather than stiff, staged scenes. After clients have a chance to view their galleries, my favorite comment is how I was able to capture so many moments, that they themselves had missed, on their wedding day.

Before I started FotoVitae, I learned to compose shots and develop b&w film in my high school photography class (that makes me sounds really old). At the time, photography was a hobby and I went on to study Entrepreneurship at the University of Oregon (GO DUCKS!). While “studying”, I met my beautiful wife, Sunshine, and after graduation we moved to Johannesburg, South Africa where I attended The School of Photo and turned my hobby into my career.

Today, when I’m not working, you’ll find us hiking with our three wild kids, in Forest Park, or camping in one America’s amazing National Parks…camera in-hand.

common questions

What is your approach to wedding photography?

My goal, with each wedding I shoot, is to provide couples with timeless imagery that documents their once-in-a-lifetime wedding day. Throughout much of the wedding I shoot in the background taking candid shots with a photojournalistic approach. This is a great opportunity to capture the raw emotion, tradition, details, and day's events as they unfold.

Along with those candid moments, it is important to set aside time to capture your close family and wedding party. During group photos, I take control and direct the the groups so we can work as efficiently as possible.

Another important part of your day is capturing the two of you while highlighting the backdrop of your venue or location. This is a time where I give you as much direction as needed to get some amazing shots!

How do we reserve our wedding date?

In order to reserve your wedding date, I require a signed contract and non-refundable retainer of 50%.

Do you bring backup equipment?

During most of your wedding you will see me carrying two cameras allowing me to capture different angles and compositions while not missing any important moments. Along with multiple camera bodies, I carry a variety of lenses, flashes, and plenty of memory cards and batteries.

Do you offer a second photographer?

Some photographers prefer to have a second shooter during the wedding day but I prefer to shoot solo and no longer offer that option. In the past I have used second shooters but found the added cost to my clients did not provide much added value and often distracted guests during key moments. At many events I setup a third, remote camera, to capture additional angles.

How long until we see our photos?

You can expect to have your photos online and in the mail within 7-14 days depending on the package you choose and the time of year your wedding takes place.

Can we get all the rights to our photos?

With all the packages I offer, couples will receive their high-resolution images and a full-release to make prints, albums, copies, profile pictures, etc. I also retain the rights to use your photos for my website, blog, and other marketing purposes.

Do you offer any discounts for winter or weekday weddings?

Occasionally I run promotions and offer discounts for weekday and off-season weddings. Contact me if you are curious about your date or situation.

Do you visit our site ahead of time?

If your wedding is taking place at a venue that I have never shot at, you will find me arriving early on your wedding day to find the best angles, lighting, and backdrops to use. I also bring all my equipment with me so I'm prepared for any scenario that arises.

Is this your full-time job?

Yes! I work with around 40 wedding couples each year and when I'm not shooting you will catch me at the computer editing photos and returning emails.

What forms of payment do you accept?

You can make initial payments by card, check, or cash. Final payments are due on your wedding day and can be paid with check or cash. If you would like to make your final payment by card, you must make it no later than 30 before your wedding day.

Do you charge any extra fees we should know about?

There are transportation fees for weddings outside of Portland that I will let you know about when you contact me. Otherwise, the only other way to spend more money is to add more hours of wedding day coverage.
